Tobacco Duty to Rise Source from: tobaccojournal.com 31 Dec 2007 01/04/2008 The duty on cigarettes in Poland is to rise by 23 per cent starting from 14 January 2008.
In line with ministerial plans, duty will rise from PLN 80.87 per thousand pieces (cigarettes) to PLN 91.00.
According to the ministry of finance, a pack of cigarettes will then rise by 15-17 per cent. The However, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reports that some tobacco manufacturers are claiming that prices will go up by over 20 per cent. The average price of the most popular cigarettes would then be around PLN 6.87.
The hike in prices is due to European Union rules, which set a minimum 57 per cent duty on cigarettes. Enditem
