Tobacco consumers may have to pay for the medical expenses of India's senior citizens and those who cannot obtain medical insurance cover if the proposals of an Insurance Regulatory Development Association panel are accepted, according to a Tobacco China Online report. Some voices have dismissed the idea, pointing out that tobacco is already the subject of very high taxes, which can include such additional imposts as the National Calamity Contingency Duty and education levies.
