Imperial Declares Interest in Tekel

Turkey Sectors and Companies Today has reported the general manager of Imperial Tobacco Turkey, Axel Peters, as saying that the Imperial Tobacco Group was interested in the privatization of the tobacco processing and cigarette production unit of Tekel. He was quoted as saying that Imperial would definitely obtain the tender documents, for which the submission deadline is January 25. The local conglomerate, the Dogan Group, Japan Tobacco and British American Tobacco were said to be other potential bidders, along with the European investment firm, the Cinven Group, which had teamed up with a group of Turkish businessmen.
