Rural Tobacco Retailers Pass Compliance Check Source from: wausaudailyherald.com Wausau Daily Herald 12/04/2007 None of the 21 rural Lincoln County businesses holding tobacco resale licenses sold tobacco last week to a minor during a compliance check.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department and the Lincoln County Health Department sent a young-looking teenager working for the departments into stores Thursday in the Merrill, Gleason and Tomahawk areas to purchase cigarettes, according to a Sheriff's Department press release.
This is the first time since the checks started that authorities found 100 percent compliance, officials said.
"I am pleased that our retailers are working with us to keep tobacco out of the hands of minors and that they are committed, as we are, to keeping underage sales in check," Lincoln County Sheriff Jeff Jaeger said. Enditem
