Official Says Tobacco Quitline a Success

North Dakota's Tobacco Quitline is proving to be an overwhelming success, a little over three years after it was launched, an official says. More than 250 people call the Quitline every month, looking for information on how to kick the tobacco habit, said Michelle Walker, cessation coordinator for the state Health Department's tobacco prevention and control program. About one-third of the people who quit are still tobacco-free after one year. "With any type of cessation program that you have, if you have a 20 to 30 percent 'quit rate' as we call it at the end of the program or after a year, that's considered very, very successful," Walker said.
