Tobacco Board Seeks to Fill Seat Source from: thereporter.com By Reporter Staff 11/24/2007 11/26/2007 The Solano County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants for a seat on its Master Tobacco Settlement Advisory Committee.
Interested persons should have an understanding of one or more of the following topics: funding processes and financial planning for health and social services programs, primary and preventive health care for indigent populations or reducing rates of tobacco, alcohol and other drug use.
Due to the role of the committee, applicants should be free of conflict and not work directly for an agency that may be applying for MSA funding.
In 1998, several states and the major tobacco companies agreed to settle several pending state lawsuits against the tobacco industry.
As a result, the Board of Supervisors is to spend toward reducing the rates of tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use in the county and toward improving access to quality health-care services for indigent clients and others without access to health care in Solano County.
The person selected for the committee should reside in the county. The committee provides financial oversight and makes recommendations to the supervisors. Enditem
