Tobacco Killing a Large Number of People in SA

The Medical Research Council (MRC) says tobacco-related diseases kill more people in South Africa than any other disease except tuberculosis and Aids. MRC Professor Priscilla Reddy says tobacco use is preventable, so in other words if people don't smoke or we minimize smoking we can make a difference to the forthcoming chronic diseases epidemic, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Reddy says the study indicates that tobacco is the cause of 20 000 deaths per year in the country. The MRC released the results today, after conducting a study on tobacco prevention in various schools. Enditem
