Tobacco Free art Contest Source from: oneidadispatch.com 11/19/2007 11/20/2007 Tobacco Free Madison County will be sponsoring a student art exhibition and contest at Cazenovia College, with a dessert and coffee reception, on Nov. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
There will be an appearance from a Y94 radio personality and prizes.
It will take place in Hubbard Hall II. The artwork will be edgy, hard-hitting spoofs of tobacco advertisements and the deceptive marketing techniques the industry has utilized.
Representatives from Tobacco Free Madison County anticipate receiving entries in various mediums, including video. Student artwork may later be utilized by the organization in media campaigns.
The main purpose of this event is to draw attention to local organizations who do not accept tobacco company donations, which allows the tobacco companies to advertise on their premises.
Serving as judges will be local teen members of Reality Check and members of 24 local organizations who have pledged not to accept tobacco industry grants and sponsorship.
All Cazenovia College students were invited to submit artwork, and two classes have built this project into their required curriculum this semester.
There will be a hard-hitting Powerpoint presentation running continuously on screen, exposing the tobacco industry's role in intentionally addicting people and featuring stories and photos of local people who have suffered as a result of the tobacco industry's deception.
A giant "thank you" card signed by alumni, local residents, and local cancer survivors will be on display at the event. The card thanks the college for enacting a smoke free campus policy to protect people from secondhand smoke.
The art exhibition will be held in Hubbard Hall II at Cazenovia College on Nov. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Enditem
