$1M in Raw Tobacco Stolen Source from: Oct 29, 2007 Bob Mitchell Staff Reporter 11/01/2007 Peel Police are investigating the theft of more than $1 million of raw tobaccco from a Brampton trucking yard.
Although the theft occurred Oct. 19, police only announced their investigation today, indicating that three of four containers were stolen from a trucking yard on Walker Dr. in Brampton.
Few details are being released except that a legitimate trucking company picked up four containers of tobacco from a CN Rail container yard in Brampton and transported the goods to the trucking yard where three of four loads were stolen.
Police said each of the $180,000 containers was loaded with $400,000 worth of tobocacco belonging to Rothermans, Benson & Hedges. The product, valued at more than $1.2 million, was destined for a processing plant.
The theft is also being investigated by CN Rail Police. Enditem
