Japan Tobacco Posts Record Sales

Japan Tobacco Inc said Wednesday it had posted record sales and profits for the fiscal first half ended Sept 30 due to its acquisition of Britain's Gallaher Group PLC in April. The addition of Gallaher helped boost Japan Tobacco's sales and profits. In addition, cigarette sales grew both in Japan and overseas. Group net profit rose 9.2% from a year before to 133,894 million yen, while operating profit climbed 23.2% to 219,170 million yen. Sales were up 22.6% at 2,914,042 million yen. Enditem
