Ohio Agrees with Kroger to Prevent Tobacco Sales to Kids Source from: COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) October 23, 2007 10/24/2007 Attorney General Marc Dann says Kroger has agreed to work to prevent children and teenagers from buying cigarettes and other tobacco products at its stores.
The Cincinnati-based company is the nation's largest traditional grocery chain.
The deal was reached with Ohio, 41 other states and the territory of Guam.
It's the latest agreement in an ongoing effort by attorneys general to get national retailers to reduce youth access to tobacco.
Kroger will require stores to report violations on tobacco sales to children and teenagers to the corporate office.
The company will also change its store contracts to allow for termination of franchise agreements for those caught selling tobacco to minors. Enditem
