China Focuses on Lowering Tar Deliveries

The average tar delivery of cigarettes manufactured in China dropped to 13.2 mg last year, Zhang Baozhen, the deputy director general of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, told a technical innovation conference held in Wuhan, Hubei, earlier this month. In the 1980s, Zhang added, average tar deliveries had been about 25 mg. The focus of the conference was on the development of technologies for lowering tar deliveries and producing 'reduced-harm cigarettes', according to a report in Yangtze River Daily. Zhang said that the Chinese tobacco industry had succeeded in producing a series of low-tar cigarettes that were proving to be highly competitive in the marketplace. Enditem
