The Partnership for a Tobacco-Free Cerro Gordo County is a unique partnership of community members, organizations, school officials, law enforcement and youth who work to promote activities that discourage tobacco use, while supporting tobacco-free environments.
Partnership members are committed to the ongoing effort of reducing tobacco use among our youth.
Organized efforts to curb youth tobacco use in Cerro Gordo County began in the fall of 1999. The partnership started in 2002 by organizing the first Cerro Gordo Just Eliminate Lies (JEL) Youth Rally from Big Tobacco.
Partnership members have the option to attend occasional trainings as well. Two public health staff members and a representative from Smoke-Free Families recently attended a sustainability training in Ames, which was provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health and The Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium of Atlanta, Ga., which provides technical assistance, information, resources and training for state and local tobacco control programs.
