Community Meeting to Discuss Potential Tobacco Restrictions in Parks

Bob Lerude, director, County of Kern Department of Parks and Recreation, will hold a series of community meetings throughout Kern County to gain public comments on potential restrictions on tobacco use in parks operated by the Kern County Parks Department. Currently, there is a restriction through State law that prohibits tobacco use within 25 feet of tot lots or playgrounds. "The Kern County Parks Department thinks it is important to involve residents when considering changes to its policies and procedures," explains Lerude. "At meetings, the community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and complete a questionnaire. This allows them to express their views and participate in the decision process." The public is invited and encouraged to attend the meeting on Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tehachapi Veterans Building, 125 East F St. Enditem
