Finnish Retailers Could be Licensed Source from: tr.itsmyiq.com Sep 27, 2007 09/28/2007 Finland's Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is proposing that tobacco retailers should be licensed and that the sale of 'small' packs of cigarettes should be banned, according to local reports.
If parliament passes the measures, they would take effect in 2009.
A ministry official said that the aim of the proposals was to raise the threshold for starting to smoke as a way of reducing smoking among young people.
The good news for smokers is that the price of cigarettes is not set to rise. The budget proposal for next year would not increase tobacco taxation, apparently out of fear that an increase would lead to more smuggling. Enditem
