HARLOW: Shops Prepare for Tobacco Sales age Change Source from: harlowcitizen.co.uk By Isabel Jensen 09/21/2007 ESSEX Trading Standards officers have been advising businesses about changes to the legal age limit for the sale of tobacco products.
From October 1 it will be illegal to sell tobacco to under 18s. Shops breaking the law face a £2,500 fine.
Trading Standards are preparing to conduct tests using under-age volunteers.
Essex County Council trading standards executive member Roger Walters said: "Trading Standards officers are working hard to ensure local shops are ready. We will be checking to ensure shops are adhering to the new law, those that don't will be punished." Enditem
