Most Stores Not Stung by Tobacco Sting

The bite was taken out of a tobacco sting Saturday afternoon when most of the convenience stores followed the rules. In all, as part of an annual compliance check, under-age teens walked into 54 stores and tried to buy tobacco; but 47 cashiers refused. Store clerks say selling to minors simply isn't worth the $250 fine. St. Joseph County's Tobacco Quit Project and state excise police call Saturday's sting a success. Saturday also kicked off the state's "Quit to Win" contest. To take part, smokers have to pledge to quit smoking for 30 days. Enditem
