Provincial Tobacco Industry Develops Greater Annual Cigarette Production Capacity

The tobacco industry of south China's Guangdong Province has seen its annual cigarette production capacity gradually develop over recent years, to 1 million cases (50 billion cigarettes) in 2007 from 410,000 cases (20.5 billion cigarettes) in 2004, 670,000 cases (33.5 billion cigarettes) in 2005 and 950,000 cases (47.5 billion cigarettes) in 2006, as a result of structural reform intended to significantly increase its competitiveness. According to Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation - the operator of the provincial tobacco industry, the tobacco industry of Guangdong will continue the process of structural reform and quicken its steps in developing markets in other Chinese regions in a future period of time. While managing to maintain the leading status of its competitive cigarette brands at the marketplace within the province, the tobacco industry of Guangdong will take steps to deepen reform of its marketing system and accelerate the process of developing markets for its cigarette products of the Double Happiness, Wuyeshen and other competitive cigarette brands in other Chinese regions, in order to increase their market shares there. In particular, the provincial tobacco industry will actively develop mature markets and key markets, stick to the policy of giving priority to the development of key markets, strive to achieve breakthrough in the development of key markets, further reform the structure of human resources and material resources, well develop markets in such neighboring regions as Guangxi, Hunan, Hainan and Jiangxi, and attach great importance to the development of markets in Shandong, Henan, Liaoning, Sichuan, Heilongjiang and other Chinese regions, according to Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation. The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration - the operator of the tobacco industry of China - has set new business development targets and tasks for Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation in the next year, which is expected to contribute to enlarging the annual production capacity of the Double Happiness and other competitive cigarette brands of Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation.
