Chinese, French Companies to Jointly Establish Reconstituted Tobacco Production Project Source from: Hongta.com 08/27/2007 China National Tobacco Corporation and Schweitzer-Mauduit International Group of France will jointly invest in the establishment of a paper-process reconstituted tobacco sheets production project in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons.
The joint-venture China Tobacco-Schweitzer reconstituted tobacco production project, in which China National Tobacco Corporation and Schweitzer-Mauduit will each take a 50 percent stake, is expected to go into operation in August 2009.
Recently, the Planning Department of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration - the regulator of China's tobacco industry - organized a panel of 11 experts to evaluate the China Tobacco-Schweitzer reconstituted tobacco production project.
The China Tobacco-Schweitzer reconstituted tobacco production project is designed to produce tobacco sheets using the paper process, which play a leading role in improving the blending formula, lowering the tar level, improving the quality and increasing the safety of cigarette products. The demand for the supply of reconstituted tobacco sheets has remained high in China over recent years.
The establishment of the China Tobacco-Schweitzer reconstituted tobacco production project is intended to promote the drive of China's tobacco industry to develop Chinese-style cigarette products with unique Chinese characteristics and meet the growing demand of Chinese consumers for better flavor and greater safety of cigarette products made in China.
