Tobacco Hot Line Logs More Than 1,000 Callers in First Year

The Nebraska Tobacco Quitline logged more than 1,000 callers during its first year of service. The hot line sponsored by state Department of Health and Human Services provides 24-hour help to people trying to give up tobacco products. Trained counselors from the American Cancer Society man the phones. The service was launched in June 2006. Tobacco Free Nebraska administrator Judy Martin says calls have come in from 73 counties, with more than half of the callers being women. The average age of the callers was 46. To reach the Tobacco Quitline, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW. Enditem
