Central China Lab of National Tobacco Varieties Improvement Center inaugurated

The Central China Lab of the National Tobacco Varieties Improvement Center has recently been inaugurated in Wuhan, the provincial capital city of central China's Hubei Province, signifying the official start of long-term close and comprehensive technical cooperation between Hubei Provincial Tobacco Company and Qingzhou Tobacco Research Institute in east China's Shandong Province. The Central China Lab of the National Tobacco Varieties Improvement Center was established by Hubei Provincial Tobacco Company in cooperation with Qingzhou Tobacco Research Institute, in accordance with the Program of the Tobacco Industry for Medium- and Long-Term Scientific-Technological Development. The lab is a basic support platform for the National Tobacco Varieties Improvement Center. Attending the inaugural ceremony was a number of dignitaries of the tobacco industry including top leaders of Hubei Provincial Tobacco Company and Qingzhou Tobacco Research Institute. In an address delivered at the inaugural ceremony, top leaders of Hubei Provincial Tobacco Company urged the lab to focus its energy on the development of competitive brands with remarkable local characteristics, give priority to the settlement of key technical problems in the production of flue-cured tobacco and burley, and accelerate the application of achievements in scientific-technological research and development in practice, in accordance with the actual needs for the development of the provincial tobacco industry. They also urged Hubei Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation, Wuhan Tobacco Group, Hubei Provincial Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Administration, Hubei Provincial Tobacco Science Research Institute and Qingzhou Tobacco Research Institute to properly divide their work in the improvement of tobacco varieties and the development of new technologies for fertilizer application, plant diseases and pests control and prevention, leaf tobacco curing, development of leaf tobacco products with local characteristics, research of maturity of leaf tobacco, etc. Enditem
