Kinky Talks A Little Politics (& Cigars) In Austin

AUSTIN Kinky Friedman was in Austin Saturday. The former candidate for governor was trying to get Texans to buy and smoke 'the Governor.' The Governor is a cigar -- one of several stogies Friedman is marketing. He rolled out the line of Honduran smokes at a tobacco shop in the Arboretum. Ever the politically incorrect politician, Kinky used the cigar party to blow smoke in the faces of legislators who he says have outlawed smoking in many places instead of tackling more pressing problems. "Things like education and immigration -- things like that, they're letting that slip right through their fingers," Friedman said. "But keeping me 10 feet away from a door? That they can do." In many Texas cities, Friedman is outvoted on that issue. As for whether he will seek votes for the state's highest office again, Friedman says he'll wait and see. Right now, he's content to huff and puff without running any races. Enditem
