City of Charleston Reciveis Tobacco Settlement Grant

The Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission announced the award of $34,500.00 from its 2007 Community Health Grant Program to the City of Charleston. Funding for this grant came from the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Proceeds Act - an Act passed by 65% of Arkansas voters in 2000. This Act specified that tobacco settlement funds received by Arkansas should be used exclusively to improve the health of Arkansans through smoking prevention and cessation, increased access to health care, educating Arkansans on healthier lifestyle choices, and important medical research. On August 1, 2007, the Commission hosted a grant presentation ceremony for organizations who received funding from the 2007 cycle. Over $370,000.00 was awarded to various organizations across the state. The City of Charleston will use this grant, entitled, "Life Trail Wellness Stations" to go toward adding exercise stations along an existing community walking trail. These stations provide instruction on additional fitness exercises individuals can use, in conjunction with their walking, to improve their overall health. Enditem
