Tobacco Board Recommends 150 Million kg Crop

The Tobacco Board of India has recommended an authorized annual crop of 150 million kg of flue-cured Virginia tobacco for the next growing season in Andhra Pradesh, reports The Economic Times. While the trade had asked for an AP crop size of 178 million kg, the board said 150 million kg would be a safer number in light of the rising value of India's currency against the U.S. dollar. The majority of Indian tobacco is exported and continued appreciation of the rupee could hurt growers' income, said Board Chairman J. Suresh Babu. Last year's authorized AP crop was also 150 million kg. Enditem
