Tobacco Acreage Rises Source from: inrich.com Thursday, Jul 26, 2007 07/27/2007 The number of acres planted with tobacco rose slightly this year from last year, according to the Virginia Farm Service Agency.
While the 20,100 acres is well below historical levels, it marks a turnaround from steep declines in production seen in the past decade.
Tobacco once was the state's top cash crop, but ranked fourth among field crops in 2006.
