Grants Offered for Programs to Cut Tobacco Use Source from: delmarvanow.com Staff Report 07/27/2007 The Worcester County Health Department is requesting proposals to address tobacco control as a result of receiving Cigarette Restitution Funds through the State of Maryland.
Community-based organizations, churches, private non-profits and workplaces are encouraged to apply.
"The goal is to involve the community in health promotion and prevention efforts in order to reduce cancer mortality in Worcester County," said Health Officer Debbie Goeller.
Strategies may include public awareness, community outreach, education, recruitment and referral to tobacco cessation, advocacy and other health-related activities.
Tobacco control may address the reduction of smoking or the prevention of smoking, promotion of clean indoor air, or environmental change strategies.
A mini-grant orientation session will be held on Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. at the health department's Prevention Office located at 305 Bank St. in Snow Hill.
Applications must be returned to the Health Department by Aug. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
A review team of local citizens will review the applications and awards will be made by Oct. 1, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000.
Awarded programs will be expected to submit a final narrative and financial report by July 10, 2008.
