Tobacco Companies to Show at TFWA Event

Tobacco companies will again be exhibiting at the annual TFWA World Exhibition in France this year following the negotiation of a derogation from regulations that would normally ban the display and sampling of tobacco products in that country. Organizers say that 500 exhibitor companies, representing every sector supplying products to duty free and travel retail outlets, will take part in the show, which opens in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrés, Cannes (pictured during the 2006 event), on October 22. The event, which has adopted as its theme this year, 'Brand the World – Ask for the Moon', is expected to attract about 5,000 visitors, including buyers from airports, airlines, ferry and cruise operators, and other duty free operations around the world. Before the TFWA World Exhibition opened in 2006, the French customs authorities indicated that they were going to enforce restrictions that would have prevented tobacco exhibitors from displaying or sampling their products. However, the TFWA organizers were able to negotiate a derogation, a feat that they have repeated this year in good time for tobacco companies to make arrangements for exhibiting. TFWA World Exhibition will start this year with a conference in the Grand Auditorium on October 22 that will feature a panel of speakers chosen for their track records of succeeding in challenging circumstances. The details of the panel will be announced shortly. Enditem
