Turnham Tobacco Smokes Vipers 18-17 for First Win

The new kids on the block picked up their first win in the Kern Valley Co-ed Softball season. The Turnham Tobacco squad outlasted the Lakeside Realty Vipers 18-17. The back and forth battle saw the Vipers jump out to a 2-0 lead after the bottom of the first. The Turnham Tobacco team rallied to take the lead with three runs in the second, but the Vipers answered with another pair of runs to make the score 4-3. The Turnham Tobacco team exploded for six runs in the third to regain the lead 9-4. The Vipers scored twice to cut into the margin and then erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 15-13. The Turnham Tobacco squad reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth with five runs and then held off the Vipers to collect the victory. With the win the Turnham Tobacco squad pushed the Vipers into last place in the league standings as they are still looking for their first victory of the year. Nate Gohlz was the hitting star for the Turnham Tobacco team with three hits and three RBIs. Kyle Smith added three hits, while Chris Brown had two hits and two RBIs. Luther Stephens had two hits and one RBI, while Ryan Guy, John Funk and Carol Lesser each had one hit. The Lakeside Realty Vipers were led by Russell R. with three hits. Robert R. had a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Lori Jordan, Justin Rothert, Rocky Huston, Debbie Loseth, David Reese, Sherry M. and Kiela Moffatt had one hit each. In other action: The Flooring America Rug Rats defeated the Onstott Construction team 12-11.
