Saudis Urged to Look to Their Hearts

About 10 million Saudis suffer from at least three major factors that cause heart disease, according to a Muslim News report quoting World Health Organization (WHO) figures. The report said that about 50 per cent of Saudis suffered from high cholesterol levels, 36 per cent from obesity, 25 per cent from diabetes and 15-20 per cent from high blood pressure. 'Doctors' were quoted as saying that people should abstain from smoking, take regular physical exercise, consume healthy food, maintain moderate body weight, and regularly check their blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol levels in order to avoid heart disease. About six million Saudis were said to smoke about 15 billion cigarettes each year, while per capita smoking was put at 2,130 cigarettes a year. Enditem
