PM Turns up the Heat in Australia Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Australia, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 06/28/2007 Philip Morris is planning to launch its Heatbar electronic smoking device in Australia, according to a report in The Age newspaper.
Quoting confidential documents that it had seen, The Age said heating elements inside Heatbar responded when the smoker puffed on it. The specifically designed cigarette was gently toasted and never burnt. And it delivered an 'aerosol which gives the consumer the flavor and aroma associated with smoking'.
The device, which is said to produce 90 per cent less second-hand smoke than does a conventional cigarette, is to be made available from a 'concept store': The New Movement Tobacconist, in Melbourne, Victoria.
The store, which is said to be based on a similar one in Switzerland, will sell Philip Morris products and those of its competitors. Enditem
