Is the Sale of Tobacco Too Visible on the Street? Source from: corrieblog.tv 06/27/2007 I have never really bought into seeing Coronation Street as a public service programme, but one thing that does cross my mind is how prominent the sale of tobacco is in both of the programme's shops. While all the other products on sale are turned at an angle or have their labels covered in some way, there is little that the designers can do to hide cigarette packets. The cigarette stand is, naturally, behind the counter and when there is an exchange between a shopkeep and customer (or indeed between Rita and Norris) the tobacco tends to be the only part of the set on show. I am a firm believer in people making their own decisions in life but with the English smoking ban coming into force on July 1st, I do wonder how long before some Watchdog jumps down Corrie's neck for this.
