Tobacco Firm to Launch Manufacturing in Mayodan Source from: The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area Monday, June 25, 2007 06/26/2007 General Tobacco will open a manufacturing facility in Mayodan in Rockingham County, creating 199 jobs and investing $50 million over the next three years, state and local officials said.
Gov. Mike Easley said the state was contributing a $400,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.
General Tobacco, founded in 1997, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Vibo Corp. and based in Miami. Wages for the jobs in the Triad will vary by job function, but will average around $39,000 annually plus benefits.
"With the support provided by the state, Rockingham County and the city of Mayodan, North Carolina provides a fantastic opportunity for General Tobacco to begin manufacturing its nationally known brands," said J. Ronald Denman, the company's executive vice president.
General Tobacco's brands include Bronco, GT One and Silver. It will locate its facility at a former Unifi plant.
The city of Mayodan also approved $1.3 million in incentives, while Rockingham County will chip in $1.7 million. Enditem
