Beijing Cigarette Factory's Energy Consumption Hits Record Low

Beijing Cigarette Factory - a subsidiary to Shanghai Tobacco Group - registered a record low in energy consumption for cigarette production in the first five months of 2007, with the unit consumption of standard coal for cigarette production declining to 4.17 kilograms per 10,000 cigarettes, 13 percent lower than the planned energy consumption target of 4.82 kilograms per 10,000 cigarettes. In efforts to turn itself into an energy-saving enterprise, Beijing Cigarette Factory, in the first half of 2007, earnestly implemented the instruction of Shanghai Tobacco Group to lower the consumption of energy in cigarette production by including energy consumption into the planned targets for production and operation, strengthening inspection and examination and striving to implement the policy of energy conservation. In the second half of 2007, Beijing Cigarette Factory will, in accordance with the instruction of Shanghai Tobacco Group on energy conservation and on the basis of the success in energy conservation already achieved, continue strengthening management over energy consumption, and properly handle the relationship between the reduction of energy consumption and production safety, between the reduction of energy consumption and growth of efficiency and between the reduction of energy consumption and environmental protection, in striving to turn itself into an energy-saving and environment-friendly enterprise.
