Sales resume in Malawi Source from: tobaccoreporter.com Friday, April 21, 2006 04/24/2006 Tobacco sales in Malawi have resumed following last week's suspension due to low prices. Since resuming, however, prices have not increased. Most tobacco is selling for about $0.80 per kilogram.
President Bingu wa Mutharika's minimum prices are not being adhered to. The minimum prices were set at $1.10 for low grades and $1.70 for top quality grades.
Officials are accusing tobacco buyers of deliberately trying to frustrate the government by offering low prices. Enditem
