Sales resume in Malawi

Tobacco sales in Malawi have resumed following last week's suspension due to low prices. Since resuming, however, prices have not increased. Most tobacco is selling for about $0.80 per kilogram. President Bingu wa Mutharika's minimum prices are not being adhered to. The minimum prices were set at $1.10 for low grades and $1.70 for top quality grades. Officials are accusing tobacco buyers of deliberately trying to frustrate the government by offering low prices. Enditem
