Philippine Tobacco Farmers Bounce Back

Tobacco farmers in Cagayan Valley are beginning to recover after their harvest was wiped out by La NiƱa flooding in January. Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc. (PMPMI) recently sent emergency relief aid to the region. The company assured farmers that it will buy all the crop harvests of the tobacco farmers in the next planting season as long as they meet international quality standards. PMPMI has also created the country's first tobacco training school and has been helping farmers establish shallow tube wells for irrigation and set up of livelihood programs to supplement their incomes, reports The Philippine Star.
