A Chinese tobacco manufacturer, tobacco company and research institute held a symposium on February 21-22 on cooperation in fulfilling a project assigned by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) to produce high-quality leaf tobacco in Baoshan City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province in partial substitution for leaf tobacco imports. The tobacco manufacturer, tobacco company and research institute are respectively Xiamen Cigarette Factory in southeast China's Fujian Province, Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Science Research Institute and Baoshan City Tobacco Company in Yunnan. At the symposium, Baoshan City Tobacco Company unveiled specific arrangements and plans for fulfilling the project of producing high-quality leaf tobacco in Baoshan City – a major high-quality tobacco-growing zone in Yunnan - in partial substitution for leaf tobacco imports. According to the meeting, Baoshan City Tobacco Company will strengthen leadership and organization in fulfilling the project in accordance with the requirement of the formula for producing "Chinese-style cigarettes", in light of the quality standards of leaf tobacco imported from Zimbabwe and in keeping with the demand of Xiamen Cigarette Factory for the quality of leaf tobacco. Through close cooperation with the manufacturer and research institute, the tobacco company will strive to develop a whole package of technologies for producing high-quality leaf tobacco in Baoshan, which will serve as the guidelines for large-scale high-quality leaf tobacco in the region. It will also strengthen regulation over tobacco growing and management over State leaf tobacco purchase from the region, and strengthen application of technologies in high-quality leaf tobacco production Through the strengthening of application of technical measures at tobacco production in fields, the tobacco company will manage to improve the quality of tobacco, further increase the maturity of leaf tobacco both in fields and in the curing process, improve the quality of aroma of leaf tobacco, increase the content of aroma in leaf tobacco, and control the content of nicotine in leaf tobacco, in order to well embody the characteristics of lightly aromatic leaf tobacco grown in Baoshan, promote coordination of the chemical components in leaf tobacco and produce high-quality leaf tobacco that will meet the demand of Xiamen Cigarette Factory.
