TOBACCO REFORM DECREE SIGNED

The decree enforcing the CAP reform in the tobacco sector was signed by Agriculture Minister Alemanno. "The measure - reports a ministry note - regulates the term of paired regimen, as of 2006, until 2009, and sets specific measures to acknowledge raw material processing enterprises and producer associations". "The decree envisages the subscription of a cultivation 'pre-contract', to monitor national tobacco production and the use of the funds allocated to Italy. The measure also includes the cultivation contract regulating tobacco delivery to the processing companies". "Should controversies arise on the quality of the delivered tobacco, they will be dealt with the newly-instituted body. Finally, it includes a system to anticipate the subsidies to be allocated directly to agriculture and producer associations". Enditem
