Guizhou Investing in Leaf Production

China's Guizhou Province is to invest Yuan 8 billion during the next five years in infrastructure projects aimed at helping it develop its leaf tobacco production, according to a Tobacco China Online report. Most of the money will be spent on irrigation projects and the development of intensive curing regimes. Guizhou intends to introduce crop rotation techniques to 400,000 hectares of arable land with the aim of stabilizing yields even in seasons of drought or excessive rain. It intends to create 217,000 intensive curing barns, either by building new barns or by transforming existing barns, and to make small-size farm machinery more widely available. Finally, it intends to create a number of standard state leaf tobacco purchase stations, and to set up tobacco grower training schools. Enditem
