Golden Leaf Grants Since August Crack $20M Source from: bizjournals.com 12/22/2005 The Golden Leaf Foundation reported Wednesday that it has distributed a total of $20.5 million in 74 grants since August.
The grants were spread among eight categories, with community assistance and education receiving the largest share at more than $7.25 million. Tourism followed, though not closely, with about $3.46 million. Other categories included in the allocation were agriculture, $2.32 million; economic development, $2.04 million; work-force preparedness, $638,000; biotechnology training initiative, $3 million; site certification, $57,500; and economic catalyst, $1.69 million.
Golden Leaf grants in the Triangle have totaled more than $7.75 million since August.
The Golden Leaf Foundation was established in 1999 to help communities transition from a tobacco-dependent economy. Half of the money received by the state of North Carolina from a master settlement with cigarette manufacturers is allocated to the Golden Leaf Foundation. Enditem
