Zimbabwe Exports Tobacco Worth $30m in November

Zimbabwe, one of the world`s biggest tobacco producers, netted USD30.1 million from exports of the crop in November, an industry body said Tuesday here. The Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) said a total of 8.6 million kg of tobacco was exported, much of it going to Asia. It said some of the tobacco was semi-processed, resulting in fetching more in export earnings for the country. TIMB said the November earnings brought to USD181.3 million the amount Zimbabwe has realised from tobacco exports this year. The crop is the country`s biggest foreign currency earner, but production has plummeted in recent years after the government seized farms from whites, who produced the bulk of the tobacco, to resettle landless peasants.
