Tobacco Farmers to Get Sh9b

BRITISH American Tobacco (BATU) will this season spend sh9b on buying tobacco in the Bunyoro, reports Amlan Tumusiime. Glenn Sheppard, the managing director, told reporters over the weekend that his company was targeting 60,000 tonnes of tobacco. He said the regional farmers would be provided with transport to Kibati Central Purchasing Point in Hoima. Sheppard said this season, BATU may not face losses due to foreign matter in the tobacco like the previous year when the company made a loss of about sh8b. "I am happy this season because farmers have minimised foreign matter in the tobacco to almost none. "I am confident to compete favourably on the world market," he said. Sheppard pledged to sustain the new programme of paying farmers instantly. The farmers welcomed this. Enditem
