Tobacco Farmers May be Eligible for Rebate

Burley tobacco farmers who have a contract with Philip Morris may now be eligible for money to help them buy tobacco baling equipment. Eligible growers can receive a rebate of $2,500 if they purchase new big baling equipment, $400 for new equipment that produces half-bales of tobacco and 30 percent of the purchase price for used baling equipment. The deadline for enrolling in the pilot program and providing proof of purchase is Nov. 1. The company has earmarked $1 million for the 2005 pilot program. Eligibility is on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested growers should contact their local receiving station operator for more information. Alcoa investing $330 million in Warrick Power Plant in Newburgh Alcoa announced Friday that it is investing $330 million in its Warrick Power Plant in Newburgh, Ind. Plans include installing scrubbers on all four operating units and boiler modifications to provide greater fuel flexibility. A news release said that the improvements will increase environmental performance, power efficiency and lower costs.
