Indian Farmers Sell More Tobacco at Higher Prices

Tobacco farmers in Andhra Pradesh, India, will likely sell more tobacco and fetch better prices this season than they did last year, reports The Hindu Business Line. By July 5, 139.14 million kg had been sold, and the average price was 1.14 rupees above that of last year. The auctions are scheduled to end on July 15. The Tobacco Board had authorized 108.16 million kg for the state but expected 146 million kg including unauthorized crop. Now the total tobacco volumes could go up to 151 million kg. Farmers in Karnataka sold 90 million kg against an authorized 74 million kg.
