Zimbabwean Farmers Finish Planting, Prepare for Harvest Source from: tobaccoreporter.com 12/21/2004 An estimated 44,000 hectares of tobacco have been planted in Zimbabwe according to the country's department of agricultural research and extension. Davison Mugabe, president of the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers' Union, says that the planting season has been affected by the tillage and funding problems that farmers encountered at the beginning of the season.
Mugabe says now that the planting season is winding down, farmers must focus their attention on preparing barns for the harvesting period. Zimbabwe's government has projected that 160 million kg of tobacco will be processed for the 2004/2005 season—a significant jump from last season's nearly 65 million kg that was processed. Enditem
