The leaf tobacco import from Brazil for 2004 cost 148 million U.S. dollars.
So far in 2004, Brazil has produced 690,000 tons of flue-cured tobacco and 140,000 tons of burley. Because of whether conditions, the tobacco grown in Brazil this year is of a slightly lower maturity and a slightly lower content of oil. However, 25 percent, or 175,000 tons, of tobacco yield in the country this year is suitable for cigarette production by Chinese tobacco manufacturers.
For Chinese tobacco manufacturers, leaf tobacco with a moderate level of maturity is relatively clean and is of relatively high purity, which is suitable for cigarette production. Enditem
