Support Scheme Aims to Revive Zimbabwe's Tobacco Production Source from: tobaccoreporter.com 08/25/2004 A multibillion-dollar support scheme sponsored by the government, the central bank and other stakeholders has been put into place for Zimbabwe's tobacco growers, according to Harare-based The Herald.
The program, Vision 160, is aimed at reviving Zimbabwe's tobacco production. The goal is to produce 160 million kg in next year's season. This season, it is estimated that only 60 million kg will be produced.
Gideon Gono, governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, said the money, which is close to a trillion Zimbabwean dollars, will support farmers with financial constraints and various suppliers. Enditem
