India's Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka Farmers in Dispute

Governments in India's Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states are struggling to satisfy tobacco farmers who are fighting over crop sizes. Karnataka's crop size has been increased to 74 million kg, against the 53 million kg crop that was fixed last year. Andhra Pradesh's crop size is fixed at 111 million kg—the same as in 2003. In addition, 30,000 Karnataka barns, which were being operated without licenses, have been authorized. Andhra Pradesh farmers are upset over the government's decisions in Karnataka and are seeking reversal. Karnataka farmers are seeking the relocation of the headquarters for India's Tobacco Board from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, to New Delhi. Enditem
