Malaysia: PPB Group And YBK Team up to Plant Tobacco Source from: Utusan Online (my) KANGAR 08/17/2004 PPB Group Bhd, which manages the sugarcane plantation in Chuping near here, is expanding its activity by planting tobacco.
The company is teaming up with Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) to plant tobacco on a 30 ha land at the Chuping sugarcane plantation.
The two parties signed a joint venture agreement to this effect here Tuesday.
PPB was represented by its general manager, Datuk Tengku Shahrin Abu Bakar ibni Tengku Suleiman, while YBK was represented by its director Dohat Shafie.
PPB and YBK have been given a quota by the National Tobacco Board to come out with 300,000 kg of dried tobacco leaves this year.
The agreement was witnessed by Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Deputy Minister of Plantation Enterprises and Commodities Datuk Anifah Aman.
The plantation company manages some 4,000 ha of sugarcane plantations since 1968.
Shahidan, when approached by reporters, said that the joint venture would benefit YBK in its efforts to help the poor. Enditem
