STMA Holds Meeting on High-Quality Tobacco Production

The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) held an on-the-spot meeting on the establishment of model bases for producing high-quality leaf tobacco with science and technology in southwest China's Zunyi City on August 4-5, with the participation of more than 120 experts and representatives of China's tobacco industry. [img border=0 hspace="4" vspace="4" align="left" src=http://www.tobaccochina.com/english/picture/0408093.jpg] During the two-day meeting, the participants exchanged opinions on and experience in the establishment of model bases for producing high-quality leaf tobacco with science and technology, and discussed ways of promoting the application of advanced production technologies. At the meeting, experts or professors with three established model leaf tobacco production bases, Shanghai Tobacco Group, Henan Agricultural University, Shenyang Agricultural University, Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Science Research Institute and China (North) Tobacco Heredity Breeding Research Center delivered speeches on sustainable development of tobacco production in China in an in-depth way. At the conclusion of the meeting, Wang Xiansheng, Deputy Director of the STMA's Department of Science, Technology and Education, said that the establishment of model bases for producing high-quality leaf tobacco with science and technology is a key work to promote the quality of leaf tobacco made in China, and a major approach to disseminate information on the development of technology for tobacco production. He said the establishment of model bases for producing high-quality leaf tobacco with science and technology is related the interests of all the parties concerned, including the agricultural, industrial and commercial sectors, the government, universities and research institutes, and that model tobacco production bases already established are major suppliers of raw materials for key Chinese tobacco manufacturers to make high-quality tobacco products. On the sidelines of the meeting, the participants visited part of the model tobacco production base in Zunyi, a standard leaf tobacco purchase station in the city, the technical center of Zunyi City Tobacco Company and Zunyi City Leaf Tobacco Co., Ltd.
