TAZ Strikes Seed Deal to Boost Zambian Crop

The Tobacco Association of Zambia (TAZ) has signed an agreement with Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (GART) of Zambia and the Lowveld Tobacco Growers Association (LTGA) of South Africa to secure tobacco seed for Zambia's growers. “The increase in the importance and size of Zambian tobacco to the national economy led to the collaborative agreement for ensuring that Zambia can be provided with tobacco seed in the future,” said TAZ in a statement. The project will introduce new seed varieties to the Zambian market that will benefit tobacco trade and Zambian farmers. TAZ said the project would also improve the quality of Zambia's crop. The GART will manage the project and the LTGA will supply technical expertise and genetic materials. TAZ will coordinate the project's business development.
